Our Services
Meds & Care Pharmacy offers the following services at our locations:
PCR/Rapid Testing:
– All symptomatic testing are done OUTDOORS in the street or in the Parking lot at the back of the building.
Vaccinations:
– Flu vaccination
– Other vaccination types including Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG); Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib); Hepatitis A and/or Hepatitis B; Herpes Zoster (Shingles); Human Papillomavirus (HPV); Japanese Encephalitis; Meningococcal disease; Pneumococcal disease; Rabies; Typhoid; Varicella; Yellow Fever. Some vaccines require a prescription while others require a patient consent. The Pharmacy Act expands the pharmacist authority relating to the administration of vaccines to any patient five years of age or older.
Point Of Care Testing (POCT):
We perform all these types of testing by appointment:
– Vitamin D Testing Level
– Pharmacogenetic Testing (Tells you which medications and doses are most likely to work the best for you)
– Diabetic A1C Testing
– Lipid profile /cholesterol and dietary Testing counselling (cholesterol levels Testing)
Prescribing for Minor Ailments:
As of January 1, 2023, Ontario pharmacists are authorized to prescribe medications for 13 minor ailments that include:
– Allergic rhinitis
– Candidal stomatitis (oral thrush)
– Conjunctivitis (bacterial, allergic and viral)
– Dermatitis (atopic, eczema, allergic and contact)
– Dysmenorrhea
– Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
– Hemorrhoids
– Herpes labialis (cold sores)
– Impetigo
– Insect bites and urticaria (hives)
– Tick bites, post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent Lyme disease
– Musculoskeletal sprains and strains
– Urinary tract infections (uncomplicated)
Note: Patients are encouraged to speak to their pharmacist to find out what healthcare services they offer and whether they are right for their needs. Having the legislated authority to prescribe for minor ailments does not mean all pharmacists must offer or provide this service.
